Annual Awards Program

Do you know a person, school, business or organization that deserves to be recognized for their environmental efforts? Nominate them for a Keep Polk County Beautiful Annual Award! The awards will be presented at the Keep Polk County Beautiful Annual Awards.

The criteria for the awards include:

  • Works to create a healthier, safer, more livable Polk County.
  • Continues efforts rather than conducting a one-time project.
  • Preserves or enhances the natural beauty of the environment.
  • Improves community waste handling and environmental practices.
  • Improves awareness of environmental stewardship, such as water and air quality issues.

2010 Award Winners

Keep Polk County Beautiful, Inc. Honors Volunteers
(Lake Wales)

Keep Polk County Beautiful, Inc. held their 2009-2010 Annual Awards and Silent Auction Fundraiser on Friday, December 3, 2010 at Bok Tower Gardens. Keep Polk County Beautiful, Inc. is a non-profit organization that focuses on Litter Prevention, Education, Community Cleanups and Beautification projects throughout Polk County. With approximately 90 people in attendance this event was a truly prestigious event. Awards were given out to groups, individuals, businesses, municipalities and communities that have set a goal of cleaning up and improving the aesthetics of Polk County. This evening was hosted by Katie Glass, Executive Director and Gwen Bettle, Board President. Catering was provided by The Red Elephant Pizza and Grill.

Lake Ashton was recognized as the 2009-2010 Adopt-A-Road Group of the Year.

Roosevelt Academy and Mrs. Dickenson’s Varying Exceptionalities Classroom (Dundee Elementary) were honored by receiving the Sadie Says, “Litter Bugs Me” Awards.

Robin Golden (City of Eagle Lake), Kissimmee River Valley Sportsman’s Association (K.R.V.S.A.), Palmetto Elementary, High Point Church – Lake Wales and The Green Horizon Land Trust were honored by receiving Preserving Polk Awards.

Polk County Waste Resource Management, Magnify Credit Union and Transfield Services were honored by receiving Living the Green Dream Awards.

Betty Cannons was awarded this year’s Board Member of the Year.

American Compliance Technologies (A.C.T.) took the honor of receiving this year’s Environmental Champion Award.

In addition to these awards, Stanford Ramsey and Betty Tantlinger were honored for their outstanding volunteer efforts.
