YARD WASTE

Yard waste collection service is intended for the collection of routine lawn and landscape maintenance. Routine yard waste is collected once a week. Any yard waste should be placed at the curb in lawn bags, in old garbage containers, or in neat bundles; each (bag, container, or bundle).

Guidelines for Yard Waste collection:
  • Yard waste must be within three feet of the curb or edge of the street or road
  • Yard waste must be at least three feet from other fixed objects
  • Bundles, bags, or containers of yard waste should weigh less than 50 pounds
  • Yard Waste outside of a container should be no more than six feet in length and/or no more than six inches in diameter

Routine yard trash is any vegetative matter resulting from residential property lawn and landscaping maintenance including:

  • Shrub and tree trimmings
  • Grass clippings
  • Palm fronds
  • Branches

Material placed curbside that does not meet the county guidelines of routine yard trash will be tagged with a non-collection notice, which serves to inform the resident that the material is non-conforming debris and therefore cannot be collected. If a material is non-conforming, then disposal is the responsibility of the resident. Routine yard trash does not include:

  • Whole trees/tree trunks
  • Stumps/logs
  • Root systems
  • Land clearing debris (i.e. rocks, bushes)

For a list of contract haulers to remove non-conforming debris, contact the Waste and Recycling Division at (863) 284-4319.

LARGE OR BULKY ITEMS

Bulk Waste collection is intended for those items that are too large to fit inside the garbage roll cart. Bulk waste items must be set out by the curb two items at a time. Drivers will only collect two items per service.

Guidelines for Bulk Waste collection:

  • Place only two bulk waste items curbside at a time
  • Bulk waste items must be within three feet of the curb or edge of the street
  • Bulk waste items must be at least three feet from other fixed objects

Some examples of accepted bulk waste:

  • Couches
  • Mattresses
  • Chairs
  • Tables
  • Appliances (“White goods”)

Once two items have been collected, residents may place two more items curbside. Bulk items do not require scheduling from the resident. Drivers will make note of bulk items curbside as they move along their routes. Bulk items will be collected within three business days; however, if bulk items are placed at the curb in between services, you will need to schedule a pick up by calling the W&R Customer Care team (863) 284-4319 or emailing PolkWasteWise@polk-county.net.
